Cannabis (Cán-na-bis) is a genus of flowering plants that includes three putative species, Cannabis sativa L., Cannabis indica Lam., and Cannabis ruderalis Janisch. These three taxa are indigenous to Central Asia, South Asia, and surrounding regions. Cannabis has long been used for fibre (hemp), for medicinal purposes, and as a recreational drug. Industrial hemp products are made from Cannabis plants selected to produce an abundance of fiber and minimal levels of THC (Δ9- tetrahydrocannabinol), a psychoactive molecule that produces the "high" associated with marijuana. The psychoactive consists of dried flowers and leaves of plants selected to produce high levels of THC. Various extracts including hashish and hash oil are also produced from the plant. Jack Herer (born 1939) is the author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes (several editions since c.1985), a book which has been used in efforts to decriminalize cannabis. A former Goldwater Republican, Herer is now a pro-marijuana and hemp activist. He has written two books, the aforementioned The Emperor Wears No Clothes and Grass. There has also been a documentary made about his life called, The Emperor of Hemp. He believes that the hemp plant should be decriminalized because it has been shown to be a renewable source of fuel, food, and medicine, and can be grown in virtually any part of the world, and that the U.S. government deliberately hides the proof of this. He has devoted his life to the support of cannabis, hemp and marijuana. Jack Herer also gave his name to a specific strain of cannabis. Herer ran for United States President twice, in 1988 (1,949 votes) and 1992 (3,875 votes) as the Grassroots Party candidate. In July 2000, Herer suffered a minor heart attack and stroke, resulting in difficulties speaking and moving the right side of his body. Herer mostly recovered, and claimed in May 2004 that treatment with the psychoactive mushroom amanita muscaria was the secret.
Jack Herer the cannabis strain is a hybrid of Skunk #1, Northern Lights #5, and Haze. It was named after Jack Herer, author and cannabis decriminalization activist. It has sativa dominant characteristics. The flowering time is 50-70 days. Jack Herer won the seventh High Times Cannabis Cup.
Governments and corporations have used the word "marijuana" to demonize hemp to the public. Marijuana is one of over 400 slang terms used worldwide to describe the cannabis hemp plant. The public has been told that hemp is a dangerous and addictive drug while scientific studies have proven that this is not true. The essential oil made from the bud of the female hemp plant is the most therapeutically active substance known to man. Millions of people enjoy smoking hemp, but this is the least effective way to use the plant medicinally. The real medical miracles occur when the oil is ingested or used topically on skin infections or diseases - then watch what happens! Hemp is real medicine straight from Mother Nature, not some concoction of chemicals and poisons produced in a pill factory somewhere."
The Emperor Wears No Clothes is a book written by Jack Herer. Starting in 1973, Jack Herer took the advice of his friend "Captain" Ed Adair and began compiling tidbits of information about cannabis and its numerous uses. In 1985, after 12 years, this data was published as The Emperor Wears No Clothes. The book is in its eleventh edition, and is often used in cannabis rescheduling and re-legalization efforts. The book, backed by H.E.M.P. (America), Hanf Haus (Germany), Sensi Seeds/Hash Marijuana Museum (Netherlands), and T.H.C., the Texas Hemp Campaign (America), offers $100,000 to anyone who can disprove the claims made within. To quote the back cover: If all fossil fuels and their derivatives, as well as trees for paper and construction were banned in order to save the planet, reverse the Greenhouse Effect and stop deforestation; then there is only one known annually renewable natural resource that is capable of providing the overall majority of the world's paper and textiles; meet all of the world's transportation, industrial and home energy needs, while simultaneously reducing pollution, rebuilding the soil, and cleaning the atmosphere all at the same time... and that substance is -- the same one that did it all before -- Cannabis Hemp... Marijuana!
